Staying Connected to Oxford

Your semester in London is an exciting opportunity for exploration and growth, but it’s also the beginning of your Oxford journey. Throughout the fall, we want you to feel grounded, supported, and connected to the Oxford community, even while you’re living abroad. This page highlights the many ways you’ll stay engaged with Oxford College, your peers, and the broader Emory network during your time in London.

How We Keep You Connected

Oxford Faculty & Academic Continuity

Two Oxford College faculty members will live and teach in London, providing an academic anchor throughout your semester. Your Discovery Seminar instructor also serves as your academic adviser for your full two years at Oxford. Their presence in London helps you stay connected to Oxford’s academic community and ensures continuity with your firstyear curriculum.

London Ambassadors

London Ambassadors are trained Oxford student leaders who help connect the Oxford Launch cohort with campus life. They offer encouragement, answer questions, and keep you engaged with Oxford traditions, opportunities, and community moments happening back home. They serve as a familiar link while you’re abroad and as you prepare to return in the spring.

CPP’s London Career Trek

This October, a group of Oxford-Emory students will travel to London for the London Career Trek, an immersive experience focused on global career exploration, professional development, and more. While in London, Trek participants meet up with the Oxford Launch cohort for informal gatherings, giving both groups a chance to reconnect, share stories, and reflect on their semesters so far. For London students, this midsemester visit can be a meaningful touchpoint, bringing familiarity, excitement, and Oxford spirit to your time abroad.

Alumni Connections

London is home to a strong network of Emory and Oxford alumni who enjoy connecting with students abroad. Throughout the semester, Oxford Launch students may participate in informal meetups, alumnihosted events, or even holiday gatherings. These connections offer insights into life and work in London and help you feel part of Emory’s global community.

Ongoing Communication from Oxford

Even from abroad, you remain connected to Oxford College through:

  • Email updates
  • Canvas announcements
  • Communications from Oxford faculty
  • Guidance from Global Oxford staff

These touchpoints ensure you stay informed about important dates, reminders, and opportunities both in London and back on campus.

Staying Connected as a Community

Your London cohort becomes its own supportive community during the semester. You’ll learn together, explore the city together, and navigate the ups and downs of college life abroad with the help of Oxford faculty, IES staff, and one another. When you return to campus in January, you’ll bring back shared experiences, friendships, and a strong foundation for your Oxford College journey.

Looking Ahead: Your Return to Oxford in the Spring

Your Oxford journey continues seamlessly once you return from London. Oxford Launch students receive intentional support, guaranteed oncampus housing, and a clear path into spring course registration to ensure a smooth transition back to Oxford College.

Spring Course Registration

While you are still in London, you’ll receive personalized guidance on choosing your spring courses. Students meet virtually with academic advising staff, learn how to use OPUS for course selection, and receive help preparing their spring schedules. This mirrors the registration support all Oxford students receive, with the added benefit of targeted advising to help you transition from your London curriculum into the spring semester.

Spring Housing
All Oxford Launch students are guaranteed oncampus housing when they return to Oxford. Full housing details, including roommate requests and housing assignments, will be shared closer to January through official Oxford channels.
 January’s Winter Welcome

When you return in early January, Oxford will welcome you back with a brief reorientation to help you reconnect with campus life, navigate resources, meet studentfacing staff, and prepare for the start of spring classes. This familiar and supportive structure helps ease your transition into the spring semester.

Getting Involved in the Oxford Community

Oxford London students have many opportunities to engage and lead, whether as London Ambassadors, Resident Assistants, Supplemental Instructors, or through clubs, volunteer programs, and student government. Oxford offers a vibrant spring semester, and we encourage you to bring your London experiences into your involvement on campus

Your London semester is the beginning of your Oxford story. You’ll return with new skills, global perspective, and strong connections that carry directly into your spring semester and beyond.
